Joining Altavoz’s growing roster of music labels is Louisiana-based Southern Stisles Records. The independent record label with roots in the south, specializes in hip-hop music and boasts a roster of artists including Mr. Envi‘, Lady Cam, Vishell, Money Marley, Blade, and DJ Certified.
“We look forward to working with Southern Stisles Records and helping their artists connect with fans across a multitude of consumer buying platforms from digital to brick and mortar and beyond,” said Altavoz CEO Nelson Jacobsen.
Southern Stisles Records was founded by Holland “Mr. Envi’” Witherspoon in 2001. “This is the opportunity we were looking for, as we now focus on artist development. I am very excited to be a part of Altavoz and ready to get things moving in the right direction for 2014,” said Witherspoon.
As an independent artist development record label, SSR is committed to offering an affordable service to all artists that are looking to gain exposure and create awareness, making their music more visible to the public.
Canadian label and music publisher Aporia Records joins Altavoz’s growing roster of label partners for distribution services in the U.S. Aporia’s catalog of acts includes: Grapes Of Wrath, Julie Doiron, Donovan Woods, Lily Frost, Foam Lake, Dustin Bentall & The Smøkes, Anna Atkinson, Shoot The Image, Morgan Doctor, Catlow, Madrid, The Coast, Girl + The Machine and many more.
“We are so pleased to be in partnership with Aporia records and their stellar team. We expect their artists to thrive here in the U.S. market and can’t wait to get to work putting their product in stores across the country,” said Nelson Jacobsen, Altavoz CEO.
The first two releases are set to hit the streets include full-length albums from singer-songwriter Julie Doiron and country and folk recording artist Donovan Woods.
With a voice as notable as his lyrics, Donovan Woods is widely recognized as an acclaimed recording artist, performer and an in-demand country and folk songwriter from Toronto to Nashville. Woods’ third album Don’t Get Too Grand will be released in the U.S. in late Fall.
So Many Days is the latest installment in the discography from Julie Doiron, one of Canada’s most acclaimed and persevering songwriters. Twenty years on the road, one Juno award, countless songwriting, recording and live collaborations, her thirteenth solo outing, due out in the U.S. in late Fall, documents a life in constant transition evident in the urgent but poignant songwriting.
Aporia Records was founded in late 1999 within a community of local Toronto bands and low-power campus radio. Rather than focus on a specific genre, Aporia’s mandate is to embrace artists who share a common aesthetic that eschews disposable music in favor of repertoire you can connect with on a deeper, more emotional level. In short, Aporia is about the journey of discovering good music that you’ll want to share with others. Over the past twelve+ years, Aporia has developed a strong reputation for presenting artists who successfully combine pop melodies with varying degrees of sonic experimentation.
Music sales and marketing expert joins Altavoz to amplify distribution objectives
Washington, DC (June 12, 2013) – Veteran entertainment industry professional, Mark Callaghan, joins the Altavoz family, bringing his years of experience in product presentation and retail strategy to leverage Altavoz’s distribution efforts. Jessamyn Sarmiento, co-CEO of Altavoz, says Callaghan will “open even more doors to retailers [and] add a great perspective of the industry” to expand Altavoz’s reach and provide entertainment consumers nationwide access to Altavoz’s indie music catalog. With Callaghan’s help, Altavoz will elevate its existing distribution strategy, forging more retail partnerships and lifting sales of AltaArtists’ and AltaAuthors’ content by making it available to customers.
Upon graduating in 1986 from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Marketing, Callaghan began his career in the music industry at BMG Distribution. He later transferred to Windham Hill Records, where he spent the first half of the 1990s as the Midwest Regional Manager, working to increase visibility and sales of new age artists. Nearly five years later, Callaghan was hired as the Midwest Regional Director at A&M Records. As Midwest Regional Director, Callaghan’s marketing and advertising efforts helped the label lift sales of artists, including Sting, Sheryl Crow, and Elton John. In 1999, Callaghan joined Verve Music Group as National Director of Sales and was responsible for the account management for artists, like Diana Krall, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holliday, on the renowned jazz label’s sales.
As Vice President of Sales at Altavoz, Callaghan makes his highly-anticipated return to the music industry after nearly a decade as an Account Manager at Ubisoft Entertainment.
