Over the years lines that would have ordinarily distinguished one sound from the other have become blurred. About a decade ago, music genres were much easier to tell apart; however, with the convergence music is experiencing, it seems as though artists have gained more control over their sound causing music to evolve. Take a closer look at some of today’s most creative talent (Click pictures to see videos):
Dawn Richard
New Orleans own Dawn Richard got her start on Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ “Making the Band” series on MTV. As a strong vocalist for Danity Kane, it came as no surprise that after the DK disbandment, Ms. Richard decided to re-launch her career as a solo artist. With a relatively different sound from DK, while still adopting the pop flavor, Dawn has blended a multitude of sounds, only understood whilst listening to her. Only greatness can come from such a strong vocalist.

Calvin Harris
Music has Scotland to thank for birthing Calvin Harris. Harris has been making music since 1999 and with him, hits like We Found Love and Feel so Close were given life. Harris takes us back to the disco days, and reassures his ability to manipulate and blend sounds. His latest album, 18 Months, is like an hour-long dance marathon—blending multiple genres and featuring powerful vocals without diminishing the sound of the track.
